Saulteaux First Nation

Located in Northern Saskatchewan near Cochin and Jackfish Lake, covers over 14,386.73 acres within BATC, Treaty #6 Territory. Their name translates to ‘people of the rapids’ in French, originating from their Ontario settlement near a waterway. Part of the Ojibwa tribe, they interacted with Europeans near Lake Superior, engaging in collaborative trading.

Embracing hunting and trading due to harsh conditions in the Great Lakes region, some migrated to Saskatchewan for the fur trade. Treaty #6 was signed on August 18, 1854. Economically, they focus on tourism, agriculture, and forestry, with around 950 registered members and notable Saulteaux First Nation Singers. The area offers lakeside parks for camping, fishing, and hunting.
